David Barelles: “The victims of sexist violence must know that there is a way out, the whole society must be involved, we can not look the other way”

Castellón, November 20, 2017.- The sub-delegate of the Government of Castellón, David Barelles, said today that “victims of male violence must Know that there is a way out of their unbearable personal situation, a solution that must come hand in hand with a response of the whole society, which must be involved, whithout looking the other way, because that can help to save even the lives of the victims, or those of their children, after such regrettable cases as those that have recently been lived.”.
Barelles has done these statements in the course of a press conference in which he presented to the whole of Castellón the actions that will be carried out in Castellón in the coming days on the occasion of November 25, International Day against Violence against Women, an event that has been accompanied by representatives of the merchant collectives, transport companies collective of Castellón and sports entities that have collaborated in this campaign, as well as the Diputación de Castellón.
According to the data of the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality and the Ministry of the Interior, in the year 2017, until November of this year, there are 44 fatal victims linked to gender violence, 5 of them in the Valencian Community and, “fortunately, none in the province of Castellón, althought this is no reason to lower the guard, much less”added Barelles, who recalled that, since 2003, in the province of Castellón there have been 12 fatalities due to male violence.
In his presentation, Barelles has indicated that in the province of Castellón up to June, a total of 920 complaints of gender violence have been registered, as well as 263 orders for the protection of victims. In addition, in the province of Castellón, on October 30 of this year, there are 800 active cases within the system of comprehensive monitoring of victims of gender violence, “about 100 cases more than a year ago, the result of an improvement in the economy, which leads women to have greater economic Independence and, therefore, dare to denounce their aggressor. “Of those 800 cases, 350 have an unappreciated level of risk, 377 a low level, 70 an average level and 3 are at high risk of suffering gender violance. Since 2009, when the system was launched, 6.441 women have had some type of comprehensive monitoring of police surveillance. In this regard, it should be noted that there are 12 electronic monitoring devices, which are know as bracelets. In addition, up to 115 inmates are serving time in one of the two penitentiary centers in the province of Castellón for crimes of gender violence. On the other hand, 272 cases are using the Atenpro system, the Telephone Care and Protection Service for victims of violence of gender, which consists in the delivery of a mobile device that allows victims of gender-based violence to contact a Center at any time.
